Mr. Penumbra's is such a fantastic book. It is the story of Clay, a web designer in San Francisco who starts working for this bizarre book shop / library. It mashes an old story of a secret society that started 500 years ago with the recent developments of Google and how new technology and old knowledge can merge.

There are so many things to explore in this book, but I chose The Accession Table just because I liked the idea. And I wondered how museums actually track what they own and what is in the inventory of other museums. [more]

The Crying of Lot 49" is the second book of Thomas Pynchon and the one that first-time Pynchon readers (aka me) often choose to start. This is short book but it is not an easy ready because Pynchon is the master of trickery. He uses a lot of science references - alongside punning names and song lyrics - and in this book the Maxwell's Demon explains a lot about Oedipa's own quest to sort information and define its own reality. Emmett was was outside a grocery store in Mississippi with his cousin and friends, bragging that he had a white girlfriend in his hometown (probably as a joke, he liked to make people laugh). His cousin and friends doubted him, and dared him to ask the white lady, who was behind the counter inside the store, on a date.

Emmett entered the store, bought some candy, and said "Bye, baby" to the lady.
